How to define your Dimension(s) / Capacity Unit(s) for your Vehicles and Tasks

Dimensions, or capacity units, refer to a specific units that define your Vehicle Capacity, which is a key factor used in Route Optimization.

Setting up Dimension can be done in Configuration โ‡’ Dimensions. Select Edit and input the Dimension Name and Unit (e.g. Weight and kg). Click Add and then Save once the changes have been added.

If you are not sure which Capacity Unit to use, or you don't have a Capacity Unit, we recommend leaving it as it is (DefaultSizeUnit).

Dimensions is a mandatory step on both the Vehicle and Task-level, so simply enter a Large number for each Vehicle Profile/Type, and then either input the value of '0' or '1' for each Task under the DefaultSizeUnit field.

Task size calculation

It's possible to adjust how eLogii calculates Task size.

  • Use Task size - This means that eLogii will take the defined Dimensions/Capacity unit as the Task size, regardless of the items that are included within the Task.

  • Use items size - eLogii will add up all the item sizes and their sum will be regarded as the overall Task size.

  • Use items unit size multiplied by items quantity - This option will tell eLogii to multiply the item quantity with its defined size, and quantify it as an overall Task size. You can add an item quantity i.e. define types of Items, their quantity and size. This means that if your Task has an item whose quantity is 2, and size 6 kg, it means that the actual Task size will be 12 kg.

Multiple dimensions

If you use multiple size units for different types of packages such as Volume, Weight, Boxes, Pallets, Orders etc. If you define multiple units, you need to define them on both a Vehicle and Task level, which means that Vehicle capacity for each of the defined dimensions/size units needs to be defined, as well as the values of those dimensions when importing Tasks.

In case of multiple dimensions, if some Vehicles do not carry both dimensions (i.e. they carry only one of them), then set 0 as the maximum capacity for the undesired capacity units when importing Vehicles. That way, you will ensure that each Vehicle carries the appropriate Tasks. Similarly, if you don't use a specific size unit for some Tasks, you can set values as 0 for those units.
