Vehicles represent entities that carry your Tasks, and can be configured to suit various needs and scenarios. For a Vehicle to be useable, it needs to be associated with a Driver, as Vehicles without assigned Drivers will not be taken into account for optimization.

Creating a Vehicle

There are three ways of importing Vehicles - adding manually, via CSV, and via API. This article explains how a Vehicle can be added manually. Adding a new vehicle manually can be done in Vehicles β‡’ Add a vehicle.

The only required information is Vehicle Name and the Capacity based on the dimension units previously set up in Configuration.

Depending on your account configuration, you can also add truck specifications (to ensure that large vehicles for example are routed on the correct maps, avoiding low bridges, forbidden roads etc.).

Further, also depending on the account configuration, you can also add the relevant inputs to track vehicle-centric costs and any custom data fields pertaining specifically to vehicles.

Click Save once all the required data has been added.

Bulk-importing vehicles is also possible and explained in this article.

Vehicle information options

Vehicle information can be edited in Vehicles β‡’ Vehicle Profile.

In the Profile section of the Vehicle you are able to input the following information:

  • Reference - A reference code unique to your organization.

  • Name - The name of your Vehicle (for example, the Vehicle model).

  • License plate - License plate unique to each Vehicle.

  • Profile photo - Photo of the Vehicle.

  • Description - Short description of the Vehicle.

  • Vehicle category - Affects the outcome of the optimization, depending on the category chosen. You can choose from the following - motorcycle, bicycle, car, pickup, van, large van, truck, large truck.

  • Vehicle type - Depending on your configuration, or subscription plan, you can choose to apply Vehicle presets to new Vehicles to save time filling in specifications for each new Vehicle.

  • Assign Teams- Teams associated with the Vehicle.

  • Capacity - Define a maximum capacity for your Vehicle.

  • Tags - Add and define tags.

In case you already have a defined Vehicle type, by selecting a type all these fields are going to be populated with the saved presets defined under a specific vehicle type. For example, if you've set specific tags and capacity for a vehicle type, upon selecting it, these fields will be auto-populated with the exact same information.

Within the Vehicle capability section you can select any of the available capabilities which will determine the types of Tasks the Vehicle can take on. In other words, a Vehicle with specific capabilities can transport Tasks with matching capabilities.

Vehicle specifications are specified in the Truck specifications section where you can define the following:

  • Type - select the Truck type and define Axle count.

  • Dimensions - specify the Height, Width and Length of the Vehicle.

  • Weight - Max weight and Weight per axle.

  • Trailers - how many trailers the Vehicle has.

  • Tunnel category - This refers to the ADR tunnel category system designed to control the transport of dangerous goods through various tunnels . The categories are distinguished by the restrictions and risk factor, and graded from A to E.

    • A - low risk, no restrictions.

    • B - limited risk, few restrictions.

    • C - medium risk, some restrictions.

    • D - high risk, many restrictions occur.

    • E - very high risk, restricted tunnel.

Please note that all of these parameters will be taken into account in the entire routing process. For example, if you select a specific tunnel category, eLogii will not send vehicles on routes that contain a tunnel the vehicle cannot pass through, or if you set a specific vehicle height, eLogii will not navigate the vehicles to go under overpasses that are too short for the vehicle to pass under.

Similarly to the Vehicle profile section, if a specific vehicle type is chosen, all the fields in this section will be auto-populated with the data defined within the vehicle type.

In addition, if you change any information for any vehicle type, these changes will automatically be applied to all the vehicles that have that specific vehicle type selected for them as well.

Vehicle Cost, Notes and Custom Data can also be edited in the Vehicle section as well.
